MICHELLE'S STORY

Michelle Bonton is a native Houstonian with over 25 years of experience in organizational leadership and development. She is a retired school teacher and superintendent.

Michelle is a changemaker with a proven track record of dedicated community service and a passion for positive change. Now, Michelle is ready to take her passion, expertise, and commitment to serve Texas and the constituents of State Senate District 15.

Known for her pragmatic approach, Michelle is an action-driven problem solver who excels in striking compromises and delivering tangible results for her community. Her advocacy for public schools is marked by significant achievements, such as securing $8 million in state funding for the arts, contributing to the passage of the 13th check for retired teachers, and playing a crucial role in the approval of the Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) raise. Her efforts were also instrumental in the expansion of pre-kindergarten programs.

Michelle's journey is one of resilience and determination. Having faced challenges as a teenage mother, a minimum wage earner, and a daughter of a convicted felon, she has risen to become a successful businesswoman. Her desire for positive change in her community led her to start and build an organization that now boasts 180 employees and serves 1,400 Houston families with an impressive annual budget of $14 million. This personal journey deeply informs her understanding of the issues faced by the residents of District 15 – from the need for quality education and livable wages to economic empowerment and safer communities.

With her lived experiences, Michelle Bonton is not only an advocate but a testament to the power of perseverance and hope. She embodies the unique needs and dreams of her community and is passionately committed to forging a brighter, more inclusive future where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.
